In the Spanish-language version of this page, there appears here a translation of this classic critique of the prison industrial complex by Angela Davis. Appended to the text are several commentaries written by members of La Lleca (both prisoners and organizers) that serve as a criticism of Davis' positions and to adapt her reflections to the situation in Mexico. Our goal with this translation was to make this essay (and the commentaries) available to people here in Mexico who are directly involved in the prison system (i.e., prisoners and their extended family; workers in the DGPRS; and other collectives, groups and individuals that work in prisons and in marginalized communities).
