Radio Kanero As an "open media" group, our work is centered in the search to generate our own media and forms for giving voice to ways of thinking, acting and living rejected by the commercial media. We believe that the communication between people in particular and societies in general is generally ineffective for, among other reasons, being based in imported schematics that with difficulty address local realities. Generally speaking, these importations impede the establishment of effective links of communication and, therefore, of comprehension.

This, without doubt, has a direct impact on how we relate to one another in daily life. Currently, the media of mass communication appear as inaccessible forms of communication for the population at large, above all for the most marginal sectors. Those of us who have a technical understanding of a medium of communication, such as radio, know how simple and necessary it is to give a voice to the multiple realities and problematics of the common people. One of the most important commitments of open media for our society is the transmission of this technical knowledge to sectors that do not have access to it.

The workshop in radio that we give in the CERESOVA prison facility seeks to bring to the prison population knowledge of radio formats, such as promotions, chronicles, informative capsules, and interviews, as well as techniques of elocution and creation. We think that this encounter can contribute in a positive manner to the reinsertion of the prisoners in society once they are free again and in the present moment by constructing a channel of communication with the outside.
